Men’s Health

Supporting men with prostate and testicular cancer, and raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

PLUM Program and Men’s Health

An estimated 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer by the time they are 85 years old. The psychological burden whilst going through treatment can be profound, and our team of Exercise Physiologists are here to support.

Exercise Physiologists play an integral role in supporting and optimising recovery following cancer diagnosis. Research has shown exercise to be beneficial for recovery both during and after treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Who is this for?

The Plum Program Community Walk is a support group for men going through or recovering from prostate cancer. The program is not just limited to those with prostate cancer, however, and anyone is welcome to join. As a community, we can stand tall and support each other through life’s various challenges.

Following a local neighbourhood walk and conversation, we meet for coffee at a local cafe. These sessions are supervised by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.

Movember

We’ve been supporting Movember since 2016, which aims to raise awareness and funding for prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Community Events

Each November, we get involved in a range of community events, from parkrun to push-up challenges and everything in between. One of our Exercise Physiologists has even been to Everest Base Camp to fundraise for Movember!

Notable events include ‘The Long Run for Prostate Cancer’, where each of our Exercise Physiologists ran 72km throughout the month of September 2022. ‘The Long Run’ aims to raise awareness and funds to help men survive prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australian men. Sadly, 1 in 5 men will develop anxiety or depression as a result of their diagnosis, yet 72% of men will not seek help for it. Together we can ensure these men are supported for the long run.

If you have an idea for an event or would like to get involved, please get in touch.
